Non-standards compliant browsers suck. Especially those that implement
the standards in an ass-backwards way. They really suck.

Lack of use of CSS in modern web site design annoys me to no end as
well. It cleanly separates content from presentation, and allows both
the user and designer much more freedom. The more CSS is used, the more
users will demand browsers that support it well and the better support
will be. MS would most likely add good CSS support to IE if people
started using browsers with the Gecko rendering engine, such as Mozilla,
Firebird, Camino, et al. instead.

As hacker on PerlMonks said:

Using tables instead of CSS on a web site [for layout] is like using
wooden 2x4 beams to make a bust of someone's face, instead of clay or
   bronze.

Oh, and just for good measure, web sites that still do stupid, broken
browser detection deserve to be shot.
