This came up on boingboing.net a while ago.  There's a setting
in iTunes' preferences file which is turned on by default, and
it stops you running more than one instance of it.  That bites
people using fast-user switching.

You can turn it off, and people have done so with no ill effect.
I figure it's enabled by default so you don't get contention for
external devices like iPods.
