I've been playing with it the last few days. It's not unlike BSD ports
(as one would expect), but it has ports that are broken, have been
broken for months, and don't seem likely to ever be fixed.

It also has a lot less stuff covered than Fink.

Fink is a long way from perfect, but so far it seems to be about the
best of a bad bunch. I still build plenty of things by hand, but with
the sheer number of dependencies that any GUI application has these
days it's useful to let Fink take care of the basics (all the gtk+ and
gnomeish things, for example) in advance.

Oh, and ports ain't perfect either. It's quite possible to get into a
mess with them, too.

Remember: it all sucks.
