Keep in mind that "." is a file/directory starting with a '.' in your
home directory.

If you mean "everything starting with a '.' except . and ..", which I
suspect is in fact what you mean, then say that.  It's giving you
exactly what you asked for.

Software that gives me exactly what I asked for is Not Hateful.  Well,
it probably is for some other reason, but not because it gives me
exactly what I asked for.

Do you really want to see all the stuff that starts with '.' every time
you use *?  Isn't avoiding that the whole point of the .name convention?
