I was going to mention something about that, but it’s a whole
’nother can of snakes. Almost all filesystem manipulation APIs
are hateful. Using strings to identify files is hateful. So
hateful. Not having a notification mechanism so the system can
tell apps when something relevant has happened is hateful.

(Ideally, filesystem objects would be, well, that – objects,
where the API would provide the “M” from MVC, and then you could
actually write applications that behave sanely without leaking
complexity into every damn freaking line of code that somehow
deals with the filesystem.)
