Most things that are hateful in tcsh were set in stone 25 years ago.

Most things that are hateful in X11 were set in stone 20 years ago.

Most things that are hateful in Python don't have that excuse.

And finally, the thing that you're finding hateful in "env A= echo $A" 
exists in Python too.

       os.system("env A=X echo "+A);

Look at that! A is not X in a place located after "A=X"!
