I keep asking myself this very question, but for reasons other than run-time
performance (the compile time really bugs me though). If you dyke out
exceptions, C++ is as fast as C. And I do a lot of non-real-time, non-embedded work.

There's a lot of people today who are better at C++ than in C, so I wouldn't
automatically assume that trusting one's life to contemporary C++ software is
more stupid than trusting one's life to contemporary C software.

I wouldn't discard software based on the tools used to build it. What I *would*
do is to choose what software to *develop myself* based on the tools used to
build it. I do more Python, C, etc. than C++ today (tens of things to hate
instead of thousands - that I call a better life), but a lot of C++ happens to
float around me.

And I really *hate* to deal with C++, more and more so as time goes by.

One amazing thing about C++ is the amount of people who use it and hate it.
People usually get attached to their tools and forgive the hateful thigns. I
wonder how many people who've worked in C++ for 10 years would like to spend an
11th year doing it.
There's stuff above here
