Variable Envelope Return Path.

Basically, you send out each list message as a separate mailing per
user, with (as its SMTP FROM address) something like:

bounce-debian-beowulf=roger=firedrake.org@xxxxx.xxxxxx.xxx

Then you make all "bounce-debian-beowulf*@xxxxx.xxxxxx.xxx" addresses
fall into your bounce processor. (Assuming it's not one of the really
blatantly broken MTAs which will send errors to the "From:" address, of
course.)

In my experience it's the only excuse for the extreme bandwidth costs
involved in not sending out a list message with multiple SMTP
recipients.
