Firstly I must commend the samba people for *trying* to make things easy. I managed to get their web based admin to work which is marginally better than trying to edit the five million settings manually. The documentation is surprisingly good, if not good enough to explain how to make the damn thing work. Of course half the complexity is because they have to interact with the shit that the fucktards at microsoft consider software. I hate microsoft because they have hidden the networking settings to make it harder to work out what the fuck this netbios crap is, how to possible force it to go over tcp/ip, etc. Somehow my wins name resolution is fucked or something. Searching on google has found some random hacks that have made it work for other people but they seem to want to get XP to join their linux pdc or some other madness, I did them anyway because it was fun. Still didn't work. Anyway why is software so fucking hard? All I want to do is to share some files over the network. I have considered NFS but that's just such a pit of hate I don't know where to start. Gavin.
