Don't forget also the software that expires and you can't install it because
it now has more requirements than you can handle: MSN Messenger on my old
Mac - as used by my younger brother who is not very geeky and just uses it
because it works well (which surprises me for a Microsoft app) - is now
refusing to run, announcing that we must upgrade to the newest version. The
newest version only works on OS X. Upgrading the entire OS on this box just
for some shitty IM client is a no-no, not least because that's a very shaky
prospect on this hardware. Fucking wankers! Thankfully, Jabber-MSN 
transports seem to work OK (another reason to be using TVJab, which started
this thread).
