prelink. Nice concept. Cut down on overhead by doing most of the dynamic loader's calculations ahead of time and stuffing the results into the executables. Speeds up everything by, oh, let's be generous, 1%. We like it. Except when it decides to write binary zeroes over a whole pile of important things, like /bin/sh, but not *quite* blatantly enough that all the broken things can easily be found... so the easiest way to recover is to reinstall all the packages on the system... which doesn't work, but that's a whole separate rant. This turns out to be a known bug triggered by running out of disk space. (Ever hear of error checking, bozo?) zw
