The person at the console isn't necessarily actually typing and using the mouse while they're using the computer. > I'd be really pissed off if I came back to my machine and it was flat > because I have a web server on it and someone was looking at the web > page. If I want a machine that serves files, I'll get a server. Or in > extreme cases, tell the laptop to not turn off if it's plugged in. Well of course you would. That would be stupid. Turning off while on power and under heavy use is stupid as well. Forcing me to tweak power profiles to get non-stupid behaviour is stupid as well. These little things have the most complicated system software that has ever existed, and they still don't do as good a job of power management as a cheap ten year old microwave. If I have to create a power profile, I want to be able to create one that looks something like: If on power Turn off if disk has been inactive for 2 minutes, AND outgoing network traffic has been below 200 bits/second for 2 minutes, AND incoming network traffic has been below 3kbits/second for 5 minutes, AND (the mouse has been inactive for 20 minutes OR (ambient light is below 5% AND the keyboard light is inactive AND the mouse has been inactive for 2 minutes)), AND the keyboard has been inactive for 5 minutes, AND none of the following programs have windows open, AND (audio output is inactive OR ambient light has been below 5% for 30 minutes). If on battery Turn off if keyboard has been active for 5 minutes AND mouse has been inactive for 5 minutes AND (audio output is inactive OR battery is below 50%).There's stuff above here
