There is actually a way around this, but it can be another source of hate. Notes has a few ancillary processes which you can kill from task manager, and not have to login/logout again. It's a PITA, but it saves some time. After killing Notes not-so-gracefully hunt in task manager for an 'nthpdr.exe' or something similar (it changes with different versions of notes.) Once that's killed you can restart notes. Lotus Notes needs to die a horrible death, but even IBM won't put it out of its misery.
