The Finder in OS X has the same bloody idiocy when you're listing files sorted by modification date. Here's a typical scenario: 1) work in a text editor on several files, close them 2) look at the window in the background with the list of files, realize I need to edit one of them some more 3) switch to the finder, double-click on the file name. 3a) after the first click the finder realizes the modification time has changed, and the file is displayed at the wrong place in the list, and reshuffles the list 3b) the second click ends up on a different file, which the finder opens for you 4) I'm watching a window with contents from a file I did not expect. 5) curse loudly, close the file, go back to step 2, with a "scroll window to the top to see the file I need" thrown in for good measure. I hear Tiger has quite a few modifications in the Finder. I hope they finally managed to find a way to have the system notify the finder a file has been modified - I mean, the bloody calls are available for the shiny new toys like Spotlight, right? Or should we forget about this new-fangled double-clicking and all switch to single-click-control-O-key for opening files? -John
