Man, life sucks some times. Sounds like the disk was having symptoms
already (i.e., the ext3 wasn't seeing what it thought it should).
Fedora in the latest release wants to use LVM for the disk. This
would have helped as you can resize partitions on the fly.
Of course, if the disk is bad ...
Still sucks that it wouldn't go back far enough.
