Personally I think Perl 6 should not be called Perl. It's not a new version of Perl 5. > It'll break every single script I ever wrote and will write. Perl 6 won't *break* every script you ever wrote, much in the same way that Ruby doesn't break your Perl scripts. It just simply doesn't understand that syntax. It's a different language, that just borrows heavily from Perl. It is true that Perl 6 will not run Perl 5 scripts without falling back to a full Perl 5 compatibility mode, that in turn doesn't do Perl 6 syntax. > > but because it is consistent within this language. > So were the spaces in cobol and so are they in python. The differente is that in Perl 6, sequences of horizontal whitespace are all the same. In COBOL and Python, the length of the whitespace is significant. > I'll stick with perl5. Is is an absolute show stopper for me. > And I am not kidding. I can imagine that. Fortunately for you, you're not alone, and Perl 5 will always be around. > That could win me back, but it should be in the core, and be *very* easily > switched to default. Ah, like defined-or (//) is in Perl 5 now? I almost forgot how much you hate to patch your perl :) -- korajn salutojn, juerd waalboer: perl hacker <juerd@xxxxx.xx> <http://juerd.nl/sig> convolution: ict solutions and consultancy <sales@xxxxxxxxxxx.xx> Ik vertrouw stemcomputers niet.
