If you dyke out exceptions, C++ is as fast as C. And I do a lot of non-real-time, non-embedded work. There's a lot of people today who are better at C++ than in C, so I wouldn't automatically assume that trusting one's life to contemporary C++ software is more stupid than trusting one's life to contemporary C software. I wouldn't discard software based on the tools used to build it. What I *would* do is to choose what software to *develop myself* based on the tools used to build it. I do more Python, C, etc. than C++ today (tens of things to hate instead of thousands - that I call a better life), but a lot of C++ happens to float around me. And I really *hate* to deal with C++, more and more so as time goes by. One amazing thing about C++ is the amount of people who use it and hate it. People usually get attached to their tools and forgive the hateful thigns. I wonder how many people who've worked in C++ for 10 years would like to spend an 11th year doing it.There's stuff above here
