$ uname -a
FreeBSD plum.flirble.org 4.7-STABLE FreeBSD 4.7-STABLE #0: Sun Mar 23 18:33:06 GMT 2003     scot@xxxx.xxxxxxx.xxx:/usr/src/sys/compile/PLUM  i386
$ /usr/bin/perl -v

This is perl, v5.6.1 built for i386-freebsd

I think it's only die-hard FreeBSD users who are on 5.005_03

And although my own FreeBSD (currently turned off) has /usr/bin/perl as
5.005_03, it does have some more modern perls installed in /usr/local/bin

Anyone on FreeBSD 4.0 is free to install 5.8.1 in /usr/local
