Apple Mail

After my last try using this (on a fresh Mac when I didn't want to
migrate my 1GB or so of local Eudora mailboxes) I should have
realised that this was yet another Apple app that halfheartedly
offers another way of looking at things, without supporting most of
the things that you really need.

(In this case, it's using multiple windows rather than a preview
pane. Set the preview pane to closed, and there's no way of switching
between messages other than close, down, open, compared to Eudora's
single key. Doh. Anyway, this is, I believe, a previous hate.)

Anyway, it turns out Mail is pretty good at IMAP, so I thought I'd
use it to access just my work email. (I get such a low volume that
the email switching issue isn't that annoying.) I set up the columns
I wanted to view, including make the date column small enough that it
displays dates in a nice compressed format (12/05/2004, not Tuesday
12th May 2004; who needs all that verbiage?), although it still
doesn't have an option to turn off relative dates ("Yesterday" might
be cute, but I want numbers, you bastards).

Last week Mail forgot all those view settings, and reopened the
preview pane too.

Today it did it again. Fucking piece of shit. (At least this time I'm
going to back up the relevant com.apple.mail.plist keys.)

I hate Apple Mail. Mind you, the five minutes I spent with Outlook
Express made me even more insufferable. Ask Tom.
