Versioning is fine. I prefer the "snapshot" model to the VMS style "file
version" model... it's like the differnce between SCCS/RCS and CVS... but
it's a whole separate issue than metadata.

FreeBSD now has snapshots. Hopefully that will spread to other BSDs like
Mac OS X (if Apple would pull their head out and dump HFS+ in the toxic
waste bin... all the kewl stuff they "need" in HFS+ can be done at the
vnode layer, honest, but let's not get into my hate for UNIX file systems
that are not at least as good as UFS/FFS), and maybe even Linux eventually.

I like the way NetApp exposes snapshots, personally.
