I've had many problems with rsyncx, most of which I haven't cared enough
to learn more about.  I now use ditto(1) to copy my MacOS files if I
suspect some bastard stuck a resource fork in there anywhere.  Ditto has
its own body of hate, but at least there's no intersection with this
thread.

Copying through a pipe, you can force ditto to read or write from a
cpio-formatted stream, so you can pipe ditto into ssh ditto, or whatever
else you need.
