My muttrc contains:
 subscribe hates-software@xxxxxx.xxxxxxxxx.xxx hate@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx

and I've never bothered setting up a mail-alias for posting; I rarely
start a thread and when I do I cut&paste from a recent post; usually
one from Peter da Silva, who uses that address.  At least I'm in good
company.  *cough*

When I group-reply, I strip out the duplicate if I remember.  I keep the
one which appeared to be named with a "current" name, based on an
assumption that the vanity domain had to be the right one.

Agreed.

What would help more is if mutt understood "this address has these
aliases which are the same" but that ties into a whole bunch of hates on
mutt's edge-triggered configuration.
