Ahh, the memories! Searching for a way to disable that Backspace key
misery is how I stumbled up this nurturing cradle of rancor that is
the hates-software mailing list.

In my googling I found this

led me to the invaluable Keyconfig extension. I guess even the most
hateful of software can lead to good ends at times. Yet, I hate it
just the same.
