Why I need to see a half dozen of these load when I turn on my computer is beyond me. It's bad enough most apps feel they need to grab the window focus and remind you that they're loading, covering up whatever you are working on. But it's really bad when they're stupid items that load in your tray! "Woah, they might forget it's running if they only see the icon by the clock! Jesus, we better show a huge-ass splash screen that stays there for 10 seconds and is always on top!" And why does Microsoft Word 2003 need to show a splash screen? This computer is ancient by today's standards (Pentium II 400) and yet Word loads in the blink of the eye. The splash screen just flashes and then it's done loading. So nobody actually ever SEES the goddamn thing. It's just an annoying flash. Ideally apps should load minimized on the taskbar if Explorer doesn't still have the focus when the app is done loading. That way if you go back to work while waiting you'll just get a blinking button when it's done. But people who are patient (or apps that are fast loading) will just pop up like normal. -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/m2/
