I for one don't know where to get actual office applications for vxworks
or QNX or ecos or ucosII or RTEMS or ...

a RADAR from iZ corporation does a fantastic job for sound recording and
playback, and as far as I know still runs BeOS under the covers, but
it's not a general purpose machine.

I hate that the vast majority of audio software is written for OSes that
are not hard realtime.  apparently it works well enough for most people,
but then most people accept reboots and viruses and glitches and trouble
with computers in general.

it's just a minor background hate...  physical analog equivalents have
their own hates, but normally I don't have to worry about hating
embedded software.  "it could be magical gnomes on the inside, but you
never know because you never have to open it up because it just works."
