I haven't done exhaustive testing, but what I find tends to works is
using X techniques in X and mac techniques in the mac world.

I.e. copy with cmd-c in a mac app, paste into the X terminal window with
a middle button click (or in a different context, ctrl-y in emacs).

That said, it would be nice if the mac stuff could work in apple's X11.
