Today I've been mostly hating Apple.=20

I had 600 new MP3s on my linux box that I wanted to get on my iPod. The =
first thing that pissed me off was that I left my iPod cable at work (I =
wish the damn thing could use a regular firewire cable). I decided to =
just copy them into iTunes on my iBook and worry about syncing them =
later.

I just left things copying slowly over wireless and went to bed hoping =
that by morning I'd magically have 3.6 gig of new music. I even created =
a "new cds" playlist for them. For some reason my iBook decided that it =
would like to go to sleep in the middle of the night even though it was =
doing something. I woke up to find iBook hung. I couldn't quit out of =
iTunes. Finder had also hung. I couldn't kill either so I decided to =
reboot. Which hung. I had to take the battery out to get it to reboot.

I dragged the files over again and went to get coffee. Luckily this time =
it managed to get everything copied over. The problem was now that I had =
each song listed twice in my playlist. Poking about twice discovered =
that while iTunes was smart enough not to copy each file twice, it =
thought that having duplicates in my playlist was OK. I couldn't work =
out how to get the stupid thing to remove duplicates so I decided to =
delete the playlist. This meant that all the new songs weren't listed in =
iTunes even though they were there on disk. Dragging my ~/Music/iTunes =
folder into iTunes made it find all the missing songs.

Fucking bastards. I miss how simple Winamp was (the 2.x version before =
they made it crap).

Apple seem good at making the easy things easy and the hard things =
annoying.

Gavin.
